What's the best time of year for a whale swim in Tonga?
August and September are the peak months — the most mother-and-calf encounters, the calmest seas and the best visibility. Whale season runs from July through October, and peak dates book out weeks in advance.
Are whale sightings guaranteed?
Whales are wild animals in their natural habitat, so sightings can't be guaranteed. That said, Tonga's whale season offers exceptionally high chances of encounters, and the full day gives the crew time to search and get you multiple swim opportunities. If conditions prevent the tour entirely, we'll work with you on rescheduling or a refund.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
No — this is open-water snorkelling, with no scuba or freediving required. You'll wear a wetsuit and fins for buoyancy, stay with your guide in the water at all times, and you can stay on the boat to watch whenever you prefer.
Do you offer free pickup and drop-off?
Yes — free pickup and drop-off for all whale tours, plus free airport pickup. Just share your accommodation or flight details when you book.
What should I bring on a whale swim?
Reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, a towel, a dry change of clothes, a light windbreaker, a waterproof camera (no flash), and motion-sickness medication if you're prone. We provide wetsuits, masks, snorkels, fins, lunch, snacks and water.
